Lockdown of the Human Mind
The last time humanity experienced a plague on par with the magnitude of COVID-19 was in 1968 when the A(H3H2) virus . Almost every factor that plays into day-to-day life is vastly different between the two time periods. Since the rise of social media, people have been more aware of events and social welfare on a global scale. There are a plethora of dynamics that the pandemic has brought about, from those that became recluse to the world, to the corporations that capitalize on the state of events, to the voices that call out to reach out and stay connected to unite humanity in an attempt to move forward together.
It is to also be noted that the outbreak did not stop the progress of various social movements and industries which had their own impacts on the global population. This includes the awareness of mental health and methods of assistance from those that are struggling in that area. The damage that the pandemic has caused in regards to fatalities, economic cliffs, and personal interaction is inadvertently linked to the decline in mental health. The repercussions at hand are still being monitored and studied as there is also, in addition to the short-term effects, a real concern over the long-term effects.
According to some conducted studies, many students have serious concerns about examinations, academic events and advising facilities. In addition, there were warnings of professors that would increase the amount of assignments due to the increase of "available time" that students now had. In addition to this, many students that were employed now faced a real problem of not being able to financially sustain themselves. As the issues grew in multitude, the mental stability of many students declined as well. These issues need to be faced before there are further long term effects.
